School Success Coaching Program

From the beginning, we will work with an initial action plan and overall expected outcomes and duration of program.  The plan will be modified as we measure results from week to week, and I’ll share updates on a regular basis.

We will schedule regular meetings with the student and the parents (or family) to create and modify the action plan as we measure the outcomes week to week.  Meeting days/times may vary depending on student work load and the need, however, a regularly scheduled meeting provides coaching and learning time even when the stress of deadlines are not present to impede further growth and change.

Each Sunday and Thursday evening I log-in to monitor grades and track progress. Parents will receive a weekly report on grades and documented patterns, including missing assignments, so that students will be held accountable for them.

It is also my responsibility to maintain regular contact with teachers regarding missing and upcoming assignments and to attend all parent/teacher conferences. I will also observe the student in the classroom, as needed.

While I can provide support with assignments, my focus is to teach organization and time management strategies so that your child becomes better able to solve problems and plan for his or her own school success.

Expected Outcomes

  • A specific action plan with goals and objectives

  • Student and parent feel supported and heard.

  • Trust is established through regular meetings.

  • Timely attention to student’s needs with escalated support when needed

  • Academic support for homework

  • Time management and organization for all upcoming assignments/projects

  • Interventions and study strategies implemented immediately

  • Weekly reports and updates on current grades, missing assignments, and upcoming projects for quick response or intervention

  • Objective observation for adjustment in perspective if necessary

  • Interpretation and insight of information provided by school

Benefits

  • Everyone is clear on expected outcomes

For the student

  • Increasing ability to process through information and situations results in less stress.

  • Assignments completed in a timely basis result in better grades and less stress.

  • As grades improve, so do confidence, independence, and further accountability.

For the parents

  • Tracking grades on a frequent basis provides the opportunity to determine if interventions are necessary.

  • Ability to quickly identify missing assignments, or other issues, addresses issues before it’s “too late.”

  • A success coach working directly with the student creates the opportunity for a different relationship between parent and child.

  • Parents save the time of having to review grades on-line.

  • Students and parents come to truly understand what is going on in the classroom.

  • School success coaching sets the stage for maximum influence for change when necessary.

  • Quarterly workshops on topics covered in the one one sessions with your child are included in this programming.

Advocacy

Advocacy Program

What to expect with education advocacy

My first priority as an education advocate is to review of all documents created by the school, doctor, psychologist, counselor, occupational therapist, speech therapist, etc., and gain a thorough understanding of your concerns for your child in the school system. In addition, I will attend all CARE and IEP meetings and remain in contact with school personnel, administrators, and teachers as needed to ensure that accommodations for your child are being implemented.

We will have regular strategy meetings and I will take the opportunity to evaluate your child’s situation through individual meetings with him or her, as well as objective observation in the classroom.

This program includes weekly monitoring of grades, assignment status, and a quarterly report documenting occurrences in the classroom to track progress and signal the need for further intervention.

Outcomes and Benefits of Education Advocacy

  • Gain the confidence of better understanding official documentation and data and the situations when meetings with school staff are necessary.

  • Parents stay up-to-date on events and needs through weekly reports, streamlining the time it takes to gain a complete picture of the student’s progress and the ability to identify when further accommodations are necessary.

  • Know that your advocate is producing more effective paperwork supporting your student’s needs (IEPs and 504s) and ensuring accommodations are being implemented.

  • Your advocate is there to offer support and understanding, and, by meeting with the student on school issues, allows for a different relationship between parent and child.

  • Student progress is enhanced by learning time management and organization for all upcoming assignments/projects.

Learning Specialist & Monitoring

What's the difference between a learning specialist and a tutor?

I'm so glad you asked!

Tutors work with the student hands-on to help them complete assignments on time and to the best of his or her ability. If more than a "homework helper" is needed,  a subject matter tutor is skilled in the discipline that your child is struggling with and provide extra academic drills, as well as help students prepare for tests.

A learning specialist will help students who may need a new approach to the subject matter because of overarching learning differences, such as ADHD or limited executive functioning skills.

Learning specialists have degrees and special education teaching experience, and employ various methodologies.

Working with a learning specialist can transform how your child approaches academic experiences.

If your child is struggling in the classroom environment and you are not sure whether a tutor or a learning specialist is called for, please contact me for an objective assessment of your child's challenges.
